SODA Foundation joined Open Source India 2026 as an Associate Partner. We came to share Aitra, the open source project hosted by SODA to measure, understand, and optimize how AI uses infrastructure. Over two days, we met the community at our booth and presented Aitra’s approach to GPU energy measurement on stage.
Open Source India 2026: SODA Foundation Event Recap
Overview
At the Booth (CA-5A)
Our booth was open on both days and welcomed 100+ visitors each day. Visitors came to learn how Aitra brings visibility to AI infrastructure efficiency. Our theme was Measure · Understand · Optimize: measure what AI really consumes, understand where it goes, and act on it.
On Stage: "Joules per Token: How AITRA helps GPU Energy Decisions!"
The talk introduced Aitra as a cloud-native framework that connects hardware energy telemetry to AI output. It continuously measures efficiency down to the joule-per-token level.
Key points:
- Energy tied to real work. Aitra links GPU power consumption to specific workloads, models, and hardware tiers, not just total power draw.
- One data source for every team. Engineering, finance, and sustainability teams use the same measurements, for efficiency, cost attribution, and carbon tracking.
- Smarter GPU decisions. The data helps organizations plan GPU infrastructure and capacity, and run multiple models efficiently.
Speakers:
- Pravin Ranjan, Sr. Software Engineer, IBM
- Joval Kuruvila, Sr. Software Engineer, Caze Labs
- Rishi Naman Singh, Software Engineer, Caze Labs
About Aitra
- Open source under the Apache 2.0 license
- Aitra Meter, the first component, is shipping now (latest release v0.3.0)
- Its scope covers five areas: Measure, Understand, Attribute, Connect, and Optimize. Some of this ships today, and the rest is being defined in the open with the working group.
Thank you
A heartfelt thank you to our speakers, to everyone who visited our booth and joined the talk, and to the Open Source India team for a well-organized event.
Looking Forward
As AI workloads grow, energy and cost at the token level matter more every day. We look forward to continuing the conversations that started in Bengaluru. We also look forward to welcoming new contributors and Supporters to Aitra, and to building open, shared standards for measuring AI infrastructure efficiency together with the community. We hope to see you at our next event.
